Infinity Ward MMOG Rumor
Posted by Donster on: 2010-01-08 21:06:05 in category: MMOG News [ Print ]
Source: Blue's News
Infinity Ward is developing an MMOG is the latest speculation for the Call of Duty franchise, reports Destructoid, where they say they've heard that Infinity Ward is hiring developers from Blizzard and Sony Online Entertainment (one of whom "may be the lead designer of EverQuest II") to help get things off the ground. They attribute these reports to "industry sources," who could not say whether or not this MMOG is actually part of the Call of Duty series. They say "Our Intel seems to indicate that Call of Duty will continue as an annual franchise while IW runs this MMO alongside it." This jibes with yesterday's rumor that Infinity Ward is not the developer on Modern Warfare 3, the presumed eighth installment in the series (even though the seventh installment hasn't been officially announced yet), and both rumors dovetail with an latimes.com story from November that said a third developer had been added to the series in addition to Infinity Ward and Treyarch, and that Activision was considering an MMO Call of Duty game.

Ubisoft CEO says newly acquired World in Conflict dev will start with "light" online games and build into MMORPGs and MMORTSs.
By Tom Magrino, GameSpot
With the acquisition of the Tom Clancy brand in March, Ubisoft signaled its intent to enter the massively multiplayer online gaming sphere. Indeed, the French publisher's president and CEO, Yves Guillemot, said that when the deal was announced, a primary motivator for the deal was that it would allow Ubisoft to explore a Tom Clancy-branded massively multiplayer project.
Now, with this week's buyout of World in Conflict-maker Massive Entertainment, Guillemot has apparently found the vehicle for taking the next step into the MMOG market. Speaking at the BMO Capital Markets Interactive Entertainment Conference yesterday, Guillemot said the first order of business from the former Activision Blizzard studio would be to get its feet wet by making small-scale MMOGs.
