NVIDIA Releases WHQL-Certified nForce Drivers for Windows 7
Posted by Donster on: 2009-05-11 15:46:24 in category: Chipset News [ Print ]
Source: techPowerUp!
Since Microsoft kicked off its WHQL certification program for Windows 7, hardware vendors such as NVIDIA have taken serious initiatives to release new drivers that are certified to run with the new OS. Less than a week after releasing GeForce 185.85 WHQL drivers for Windows 7, NVIDIA today made nForce WHQL drivers official. NVIDIA uses a unified driver for its nForce series motherboard chipsets, which are of two main classes: for chipsets with integrated GeForce graphics, and for chipsets without integrated graphics. nForce WHQL 15.35 supports nForce chipsets for both AMD and Intel platforms without integrated graphics, while nForce WHQL 15.37 deals with support for nForce chipsets for both platforms with integrated graphics. Refer to the "supported products" tab at NVIDIA's driver page for more information. The driver package provides drivers for the Ethernet controller(s), SATA/IDE controller, RAID/AHCI controller, SMU, the IGP (depending on the driver you choose, and if an IGP is present), and provides Network Management Tools along with RAIDTool. You need to install the appropriate driver irrespective of your chipset featuring an IGP that has been disabled.

Review: Intel P45: The New Chipset Lacks Progress : Eaglelake Has Landed
Posted by Donster on: 2008-07-10 15:30:19 in category: Chipset News [ Print ]
By Patrick Schmid & Achim Roos, THG
Intel’s chipset business is a well oiled machine. The firm has been releasing a new desktop chipset family every year right around Computex in June. This time, the P35 family (Bear Lake) is being replaced by the P45 series, code-named Eaglelake. The new chipset family consists of four different models (two with integrated graphics) and mainly introduces PCI Express 2.0 to the mainstream. Although there are several new features and improvements, we found that the sum of Intel’s changes is actually quite minimal.

Intel P45/G45 Express Technology Preview
Posted by Donster on: 2008-06-03 15:09:33 in category: Chipset News [ Print ]
By Marco Chiappetta @ Hot Hardware
Today at Computex, Intel has officially launched an updated lineup of x45-series chipsets, which will likely be the last major mainstream chipset release from Intel for the Core 2 platform as we know it today. The names and specifications of these products have been rumored and reported on for the past few months, although today everything is set in stone and products are beginning to hit the market. The products which are launching today will make up the lion’s share of Intel’s chipset lineup until their next generation high-end 'X58' chipset launches with the Core 2’s successor, codenamed Nehalem.
While all of these new chipset products are based on the same core architecture, Intel has segmented this one architecture into four individual products. Those four products are the G45 Express, G43 Express, P45 Express, and the P43 Express.

Intel has sent out a notice to inform partners that the X48 chipset delivery will be delayed to WW12, which is in March. No motherboard manufacturers will get chipsets before that and that includes the first tier like ASUS and Gigabyte. Although there is no reason provided by Intel in the notice but it is definitely not due to the 'one of the first-tier motherboard makers still holds a large volume of X38 chipset inventory' rumors.

Intel To Postpone X48?

By Monica Chen, Taipei; Joseph Tsai, DigiTimes
Intel was originally going to launch the X48 chipset in January next year, however the company may postpone the chipset launch by 1-2 months because one of the first-tier motherboard makers still holds a large volume of X38 chipset inventory, according to sources at motherboard makers.
The motherboard maker fears that the X48 chipset will slow down clearance of its X38 chipset inventory and has negotiated with Intel to delay the launch of its X48 chipset. However the delay is expected to hurt makers who do not have an overstock X38 chipsets.
