Get to da choppa!
By Rowan Kaiser, IGN
“Just pick up and play.” That's the implicit and explicit message of Air Conflicts: Vietnam. It's an arcade-style flight sim, set during the Vietnam War, where you can pilot both airplanes and helicopters. Publisher representatives presented the game with refreshing honesty, stressing Air Conflict's lack of ambition. Their target market, they said, might be people who wanted a quick action romp for a budget price ($30 or $40) and who didn't want to invest as much time and energy on an intense blockbuster triple-A offering — people who wanted something they could just pick up and play.

Source: Gamer's Hell
bitComposer has released a trailer for Air Conflicts: Pacific Carriers, an arcade-flight-action game developed by Games Farm (Air Conflicts: Secret Wars) and due to be available in Q3 2012. The starting point for all the flight missions in the game campaign is an aircraft carrier in the Pacific, which the player commands as the captain of the ship. The player decides at the beginning of the game whether to engage in battle under the flag of the US Navy or the Japanese Imperial Fleet.
In Air Conflicts: Pacific Carriers the battles are also fought in the air, e.g. Pearl Harbor, Midway and Wake Island. Instead of individual aircraft, here the player can control entire squadrons and switch between them during the mission.

Tom Clancy's H.A.W.X. 2 Review
Posted by Donster on: 2010-09-03 16:56:21 in category: Flight Action [ Print ]
Review by Dan Whitehead @ Eurogamer
Air combat games are contradictory beasts. They offer the most freedom of movement of any game genre, and yet are constrained by the emptiness of their aerial arenas into gameplay that can quickly become monotonous if you're not passionately excited by military technology. Fly to waypoint, shoot down enemies, rinse, repeat.
H.A.W.X. 2 seems uncomfortably aware of its limitations and so goes out of its way to break up the aerial dogfighting. The trouble is that in doing so it risks alienating the niche audience that is perfectly happy with lots of aerial dogfighting, without offering enough to attract a more mainstream audience.

We take an exclusive flight deeper into HAWX 2's single-player campaign and try out UAV scouting and a little air-to-ground combat.
By Andrew Park, GameSpot
The high-flying sequel Tom Clancy's HAWX 2 will let you return to the skies as an ace fighter pilot, but the sequel will have plenty of new toys to play with, including a wide array of different aircraft to fly from modern American, British, and Russian forces. In addition, the game will have all-new military tech that won't necessarily involve flying, such as unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) drones, and it will also have a larger variety in its missions, including some that will challenge you to switch from midair dogfighting to bombing runs in a matter of minutes. We've tried out some of this new stuff and have new details to report. Please be advised that this story contains minor plot spoilers.

Tom Clancy’s H.A.W.X 2 Hands-On Preview

We re-enlist with the High Altitude Warfare eXperimental squadron in this air combat sequel--now with takeoffs and landings.
By Jane Douglas, GameSpot UK
Tom Clancy’s H.A.W.X 2 puts you back in the cockpit of various modern or cutting-edge fighter planes, though this time the aerial combat is split across US, Russian, and British campaigns. The story isn't a direct continuation of the first game's mercenaries-versus-US plot, but it has "much more depth," according to narrative director Edward Douglas, thanks to its multiple international perspectives. Though the plot isn't laid bare in our demo, we gather it involves mounting insurgent activity in the Middle East and Russia. As the game begins, a nuclear missile has disappeared from a Russian military base, and in the tutorial mission Contact (described in our first look at the game), an insurgent convoy launches an attack on a US air base in a desert at the edge of the conflict.

Tom Clancy flight sim franchise gets official sequel on September 3rd

Publisher Ubisoft has confirmed that Tom Clancy’s H.A.W.X 2 will be released in the UK on September 3rd.
The first title in the genre-defying Tom Clancy series was by many accounts a surprise hit for Ubisoft, successfully fending off the advances of a number of other more established IP in the flight sim sector.
“With over 1m units sold worldwide, Tom Clancy’s HAWX has become a very successful brand for Ubisoft,” creative director Bogdan Bridinel previously stated.
“This new HAWX game is directly inspired by Tom Clancy’s books, and it will enable fans to once again experience the excitement and intensity that established HAWX as a successful brand.”

As noted on the 1C Company Forum, Tomorrow War is officially available for digital distribution from GamersGate, though some folks received preordered copies of this space simulator as early as last week. Here's a rundown on the game:
"The Tomorrow War is a space sim based on the trilogy of novels written by a famous Russian author, Alexander Zorich. These books are dedicated to the intergalactic war of two mighty empires. Along with the graduates of the military-space academy players will witness different stages of the conflict between United Earth Empire and Konkordia. Gamers will participate in local operations and in huge space battles, meet alien races and fight against unofficial military organizations and of course take part in the final battle."

Where are all the sweaty dudes playing volleyball?
By Nate Ahearn, IGN
What's the one thing that enters the consciousness of every warm-blooded American when you mention dogfighting fighter jets? If the answer isn't a movie starring a bunch of sweaty dudes playing beach volleyball in tiny jean shorts with Anthony Edwards wearing a painfully awkward cutoff t-shirt, then you're lying to yourself. Luckily that very same flick is home to some of the coolest aerial battles ever set to the silver screen. It's called Top Gun and it has more man material than anything you'll find on Cinemax.
Ever since then game companies have been trying to emulate the feeling that so many imagined with Goose and Maverick in the cockpit. The latest game to try its hand is Tom Clancy's HAWX from the Ubisoft Romania studio that brought us two Blazing Angels titles. HAWX is a spiritual successor of sorts but benefits from being in a slightly distant future which means that players have the benefit of flying some moderately futuristic aircraft as well as some handy dandy navigational technology that's a bit too smart for its own good.
