	My expertise is not multimedia sound systems. Some years back I worked as a stereo salesman, however, and I still have a state of the art system in my home. Actually, I have two systems: a Yamaha system upstairs and a Bang and Olufsen system in my rec room. These systems set me back over $2000 each. I am also a musician, being fairly accomplished on the flute. As a result, I consider myself to have an exceptionally good ear. I am not that easily impressed. But every once in a while a product arrives which is evolutionary in conception but so perfectly executed that it takes my breath away. The Cambridge Soundworks FPS 2000 is one such product. From the small things - the gold plating on the sound cables and the small pack of labels for application to each set of speaker wires - to the more critical items - performance, this is an audiophile's delight. I began by sharing my personal interest in stereo systems. But I've never personally had a high quality multimedia sound system connected to my PC. So after setting up the FPS 2000 I called up our intrepid Editor and asked him for a second opinion. Len is currently running the Microsoft SS80 on his system, and is quite fond of it. These ancient institutions of higher learning are steeped in tradition and their very names conjure up images of stately Lords and Ladies striding through the halls of power. Creative Labs, on the other hand, has never brought such images to my mind. I had trouble with most of my earlier Soundblaster boards and went to a Turtle Beach Montego last year and the Quadzilla this year. The FPS 2000 may give me reason to reconsider my choices so that I can bring fully digital music to my office; the full meal deal. In light of previous associations I wasn't expecting to hear or see anything that would live up to my associations with Cambridge. As a result, I was pleasantly surprised. Both the FPS 2000 and the SB Live/FSP 2000 combination deserve their metaphorical association with tradition and class.
