MechWarrior 4
by Raul “Datajack” RodriguezMicrosoft bought FASA, the BattleTech creators last January. Since then, FASA Interactive's development staff were integrated into Microsoft's product development teams in Redmond, where they have been working on MechWarrior 4 (MW4).
MW4: Vengeance continues the traditional heart-pounding BattleMech action with drama and an unfolding storyline of the perpetual BattleTech universe, now in its 16th year. Developed by the creators of the BattleTech Universe and original MechWarrior game, MW4: Vengeance portrays the players' epic struggles to reclaim their birthright as they command an armed 40-foot tall, 80-ton, 90-mile per hour war machine across the remote battlefields of a hostile Mech world.
Raul Rodriguez's second interview at FASA was with Michael Turner, designer on MechWarrior 4. As he explains, MW4's focus is away from forcing the player through a series of scripted missions, but putting the power and game direction back into the hands of the player.
CSIM: In MW3, the player controlled an Inner Sphere Lance who took on Clan Jaguar. Will the player in MW4 belong to the Inner Sphere or the Clan?
Mike: The protagonist is a member of the Davion Royal Family, and will lead a rebellion to take back his home planet from Steiner oppressors. Due to his present situation, and the guerilla nature of this war; he will use any and all resources at his disposal. This will include Clan and Inner Sphere Technologies.
