Panzer General III: Scorched Earth
By Steve MacGregor

High Points

  • Superb battlefield graphics
  • Historically accurate units and battles
  • Simple rules
  • Lots of action
  • Good tutorial scenarios

Low Points
  • Oversimplified combat
  • Too easy to refit and resupply units
  • Slightly fiddly battlefield interface

Conclusion
Overall, I liked the game. Normally, I prefer more detailed wargames, but there is something appealing about a game you can dive into when you have an hour to kill. All the good things about the Panzer General series are here, combined with lush new graphics. If you enjoyed the previous games in the series, or if you don’t want the complexity of some of the heavy-duty turn-based wargames, this may suit you well. It may not stay on your hard drive as long as some, but it should provide plenty of fun in the meantime.

Test System
  • Compaq 7477
  • 533MHz AMD-K2 processor
  • 64 Mb RAM
  • NVIDIA TNT2 Video card with 32Mb RAM

Game Requirements
  • Pentium II 233MHz with at least an 8Mb video card.
