Ed "Brandor" Reddy recently had a chance to interview Claire Brunavs, Group Communications Manager at Jane's. Most simulation fans are fimiliar with the game division of Jane's that has brought us F15, F/A 18, USAF, as well as several other classics. Here is a look at what the rest of Jane's is all about.
Who is Jane's and what do you do?
Jane's is the world's leading provider of information on defence, transport and security to governments, militaries, businesses and universities worldwide.
2. Where do you get all of your technical information? Do companies submit technical data (non-classified) to you?
Part of the sourcing of information does come from companies supplying technical data on their products as well as governments and armed forces supplying their inventories. Jane's have a network of over 300 correspondents and contacts where we collect data which is then checked and double checked for accuracy and authenticity.
3. How many people subscribe to Jane's?
Difficult to say accurately as many of Jane's publications are passed along or shared by large numbers of people, roughly speaking around 4 million.
4. How long has Jane's been a Military information resource?
Jane's was founded in 1898 with the publication of All the World's Fighting Ships, which became and still is Jane's Fighting Ships.
5. Who comprises the Jane's staff? Is it former military? Civilian analysts? Government sources?
Yes we have former military working on our editorial as well as civilian analysts. We do not employ anyone with governmental obligations, all our staff are independent.
6. How big is Jane's? Are there worldwide offices?
Jane's employs around 350 full time staff in six offices worldwide, Central London; Coulsdon, Surrey; Washington, DC; Santa Ana, California; Singapore; Sydney, Australia.
7. The Jane's News Briefs, where does all the information come from?
All the information comes from Jane's publications - we produce over 200 a year.
